What Is Emergency Dentistry?

Emergency dentistry consists of the dental treatments that are provided to alleviate pain to address trauma to the teeth, jaws, or gums. Emergency appointments typically occur outside of your biannual dental appointments. You may experience pain in a dental emergency due to an infection, a broken tooth, or a knocked-out tooth. However, there are times when you don't feel the pain that would still require an emergency appointment, such as bleeding gums or a tooth that has turned grey.

If you're not sure whether your situation qualifies as a dental emergency, you can call our practice and a member of our compassionate team will help you determine if you have an emergency and schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

What Should I Do in a Dental Emergency?

Every dental emergency is different, but it's good to know the first steps in getting the help you need. If you or a loved one is experiencing a dental emergency, then call our office immediately. Our dentist will ask questions and actively listen to your answers to determine the best course of action. We strive to offer same-day appointments whenever possible to address emergencies.

Our dental office also has an emergency line so you can get the help you need after hours. When you reach our emergency line, our dentist will talk you through the problem and steps to help alleviate pain and schedule an appointment for the following business day.

Our Emergency Dentistry Process

Our dental team believes that your peace of mind and overall health are non-negotiable. That is why we offer emergency dental care in Fontana to safeguard your smile. When you step into our office, we will usher you from our comfortable waiting area to the dentist's chair. We don't waste time because we want to get you out of pain as quickly as possible.

We will perform a gentle and thorough exam of your teeth, gums, and jaws to determine the extent of the problem and create an effective treatment plan customized to your specific needs. Our office is equipped with nitrous oxide to help you relax and feel calm, despite the emergency situation.

Throughout your visit, you will notice that we consistently make you and your overall oral health a priority. We will check on you throughout the treatment and make the necessary adjustments to maximize your comfort.

Emergency Dentistry FAQs

We encourage you to share your questions and concerns, regardless of the reason for your visit. Our team is happy to provide the answers you need to make an informed decision regarding your oral health. Here are some of the most common questions we receive about emergency dental services.

How much does emergency dentistry cost?

The cost of your emergency visit will depend on the extent of treatment required to address the problem. However, we want you to enjoy consistent, quality dental care without feeling financially strained. That is why we accept an array of PPO insurances and offer payment plans and CareCredit®.

If your tooth gets knocked out, then there are a few steps you can take to help save your tooth. First, you want to gently hold your tooth by the crown (the portion that is visible in your mouth) and rinse it off with water. It's vital that you do not touch the root of your tooth. Then, place your tooth in a cup of milk or salt water and bring it to our dental practice. Our dentist will attempt to place the tooth back into its socket and save your tooth.

If your dental crown is lost or broken, call our office, and we will schedule an appointment as soon as possible to fit a temporary crown. During this appointment, we will also send off the measurements and impressions to have a new custom crown created for you. The process takes about two weeks, and then we'll have you visit us so we can place your new custom crown.
